Outstanding Contribution to Trichology Award

The ‘Outstanding’ award has been established to recognise a colleague who exemplifies excellence in Trichology via contributions to mentorship, professional and clinical education, excellence in research or writing or the advancement or professionalisation of Trichology in general.
An individual who meets the general criteria listed below AND who also meets the criteria for the focus area may be nominated for this award. The recipient will be selected according to the following criteria:

General Criteria:
1. Nominee must be qualified/certified from a recognised institute or society specializing in hair science/hair research or Trichology for a minimum of 5 years.

2. Nominee must have attended at least one CPD meeting a year.
3. Nominee must be a practicing Trichologist.
4. The nominee must excel on ONE of the following areas: Mentorship, Patient Education, Professional Education and Excellence in Writing/Research.

Criteria for Nomination:
The nominee must meet the general criteria and must demonstrate their contribution to Trichology as exhibited by two of the following:

• Developed a program, materials or other project which positively elevates the public’s awareness of and/or respect for Trichology as a specialty.
• Conducted and/or published research as a lead or co-author in a trichology related subject.
• Developed or made a strong contribution to the development of Trichology education.
• Developed or made a strong contribution of a professional presentation, research paper or an article submitted for publication.
• Consistently shares clinical and career growth information with colleagues
• Is available to answer questions and provide support
• Teaches new skills or knowledge to Trichologists regularly

Evidence by a portfolio will be requested from the finalists.

Education for Trichology practice must keep pace with evolving scientific knowledge and the standards influencing the development, application, and evaluation of our practice. Trichologists who demonstrate exemplary qualities in professional education, both to peer’s other healthcare professionals and the public may be recognized for contributions.

 

Outstanding Contribution to Trichology (Newcomer)

The Judges realise that being new in the field of Trichology presents some significant challenges. Breaking into a field and being successful is no easy task. There are however, outstanding new Trichologists who possess such a commitment to their new roles that they far exceed the expectations of their employers or colleagues within a very short time. These Trichologists are our future leaders. They are the “Rising Stars” of our specialty.
An individual who meets the general criteria listed below AND who also meets the criteria for the focus area may be nominated for this award. The recipient will be selected according to the following criteria:

General Criteria:
1. Nominee must be qualified/certified from a recognised institute or society specializing in hair science/hair research or Trichology for a minimum of 1 year and the maximum of 5 years.
2.
Nominee must have attended at least one CPD meeting per year.
3.
Nominee must be a practicing Trichologist.
4.
The nominee must also meet the criteria for ONE of the following focus areas: Mentorship, Patient Education, Professional Education, Excellence in Writing/Research, Excellence in profession

Criteria for Nomination:
The nominee must meet the general criteria and must demonstrate their contribution to Trichology as exhibited by two of the following:

The Newcomer may have:
• Developed a program, materials or other project which positively elevates the public’s awareness of and/or respect for Trichology as a specialty.
• Conducted and/or published research as a lead or co-author in a trichology related subject.
• Developed or made a strong contribution to the development of Trichology education.
• Participates in a Clinical Product Trial for a manufacturer or research project for a colleague
• Developed and promoted a Trichology-oriented newsletter, web page or equivalent, for the promotion of trichology for the well-being of the public/patient.
• Consistently shares clinical and career growth information with colleagues.

 

Lifetime Achievement Award

The specialty of Trichology has been established for over 100 years. Occasionally, there is a colleague who has surpassed the standard in terms of their contributions to the field. To give special recognition to a colleague with a Lifetime of Achievement in the Hair sciences.
The Hair Science Awards will periodically present this prestigious award to an individual, who by virtue of excellence, experience, dedication and contribution to Hair Science have clearly demonstrated a lifetime of accomplishments in the field.

Criteria for Nomination:
1. Nominee must be qualified/certified from a recognised institute or society specializing in hair science/hair research.
2. Or a Hair Biologist, Dermatologist or Hair Surgeon that has demonstrated a special interest in ‘Hair’ in their career.
3. Must have practiced in the realms of one of the above professions for more than two decades;
4. Has participated in the advancement of Trichology, clinical hair medicine, hair surgery or hair science in various capacities, either formally informally supporting the field in other capacities;
5. Has demonstrated contributions to education in a variety of forms, including mentorship, education, writing and research or other significant contributions.
6. Has furthered the scientific understanding of Trichology, related clinical medicine or hair sciences publication through a proven track record and esteem criteria such as being a keynote lecturer at an international congress.

 

Hair Product / Innovation Award

Hair products, be it a fully formed shampoo or the invention of a new, innovative ingredient are imperative to the advancement and maintenance of hair health.
It is our desire to recognise those innovators and innovating companies who provide products and services that help both clinicians and the public directly. The innovators or innovating companies nominated must have shown a willingness to support the wider hair science community as well as be open, honest and ethical in their marketing of their product where relevant.

Criteria for Nomination:
Innovator or Innovating Company:
• Is supportive of Trichology & the wider Hair Science community.
• Promotes evidence-based product, production and distribution claims.
• Demonstrates ethical marketing and distribution where relevant.
• Demonstrates evidence based research for the formulation of the product.

 

Outstanding Contribution to Hair Research

The ‘Outstanding’ award for the contribution to hair research has been established to recognise an individual or a collaboration that has significantly contributed to the advancement of hair Science*
This contribution could be in the form of a scientific, clinical or industrial published paper, mentorship/education programme or from significant, structured support given to the broader hair science community to aid the advancement of hair science.

To be nominated for the Research Award, the researcher(s) must have written or played a significant part in an outstanding and original scientific article that can be academic, clinical or industry based, but must be hair science related and peer-reviewed.
*Hair as a fibre, the hair follicle, clinical aspects of hair growth/loss, the mechanisms of hair growth/hair loss.

General Criteria:
1.The nominee should be qualified/certified from a recognised institution (University/Hospital) with evidence of specialising in hair science or clinical hair research, and have been working as a hair researcher for a minimum of 5 years. The nominee would typically have obtained a PhD or MD qualification in a hair related topic or have a hair specialism.
2. The nominee should provide evidence of commitment to their own continuing professional development; for example, regular participation at national/international conferences by the presentation of talks and/or posters and other relevant CDP activities.
3. The nominee must excel in at least ONE of the following areas: Mentorship/PhD/MD project student supervision.
• Patient Education.

• Professional Education/Lecturing to a wide audience (students/industry/patients/public).
• Are or have been an officer of a recognised society committee(s).

Criteria for Nomination:
The nominee should meet the general standards and must demonstrate their contribution to hair science/ hair research as exhibited by two of the following:
• Developed a program, materials or other projects which positively elevates the public’s awareness of and/or respect for hair in a scientific aspect.
• Conducted and published research as a lead or co-author in peer-reviewed journals, with an element of hair science as its main subject of study.
• Developed or made a substantial contribution to the development of education of hair related subjects
• Teaches new skills or knowledge to the broader hair science community regularly.
• Contributed to the broader scientific community, education program or mentorship programmes.

Evidence by a portfolio will be requested from the finalists.
Finalists may be requested to perform a short talk about their research via an online platform.
Publications excluded from consideration. Theses, dissertations and publications from faculty/directors, paid and unpaid staff are excluded from consideration. However, an article can still be considered if the person is listed as co-author.
